Welcome to 2019!
Can you believe it? It hardly seems possible than an entire year has gone by and I barely blogged at all! I promise to rectify that and I have been brainstorming some serious content! I know you all will be just thrilled!
This post, however, is all about my favorite things. The best things. My top 8 of 2018; the best of 2018. Yes, folks - it’s a L I S T!
Everything on this list was brought to me or I discovered somehow in 2018 (even though not everything here s NEW as of 2018). It wasn’t easy to narrow it down either! As I was listing, I just kept going and going until I wasn’t sure if this post would even come to fruition. But here it is!
Here’s the Elle Ay Esse: Best of 2018
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine
It's been a very long time since a book has held my attention from page one the way Eleanor did. Over the few days that I was reading this book, the hardest part of my day was during times I wasn't able to read it. It sucked me in.
And chewed me up. Man. Eleanor. She's... she's perfect, right? You're completely and utterly plain Jane who is both pro and e-fficient in absolutely everything. But only just so. Oh yes, Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine.
You simply MUST read Eleanor. If you are a fan of Tana French, Liane Moriarty, or Mark Edwards, you're going to fall head over heels for Miss Eleanor Oliphant.
**Synopsis:** "No one’s ever told Eleanor that life should be better than fine.
Meet Eleanor Oliphant: She struggles with appropriate social skills and tends to say exactly what she’s thinking. Nothing is missing in her carefully timetabled life of avoiding social interactions, where weekends are punctuated by frozen pizza, vodka, and phone chats with Mummy.
But everything changes when Eleanor meets Raymond, the bumbling and deeply unhygienic IT guy from her office. When she and Raymond together save Sammy, an elderly gentleman who has fallen on the sidewalk, the three become the kinds of friends who rescue one another from the lives of isolation they have each been living. And it is Raymond’s big heart that will ultimately help Eleanor find the way to repair her own profoundly damaged one. "
Blake Lively & Anna Kendrick
I love each of these women equally and have since I first caught either of them onscreen. It's no wonder I was head over heels when I heard the two would be starring opposite each other in a 2018 thriller.
Of course I saw the movie in theaters. Of course I was sucked in from the get go.
But I didn't put A Simple Favor on the best of list. I put Anna and Blake.
Because these two are magical together. It's exactly what my fangirl heart needed.
Bella the Scruffaluv
I was hesitant at first, because of a previously disastrous affair involving a fluzzee. Any DIY stuffed animal was bound to be a mistake, yes? But Abbi decided she was gong to buy Lily one for Christmas anyway.
I admit it really wasn't as bad as I expected. It wasn't bad at all actually. In the end, we wound up with a new addition to our stuffed animal family and the newly christened "Bella" is now at the top of Lily's favorites list.
Moose Toys, you've done it again!
Code Makers Lego Club
Lily had the opportunity this year to join the Windsor Elementary Code Makers Lego Club afterschool and the built a moon base!
Lu was in charge of food on her teams moon base. When it was her turn to tell everyone about her job, she informed everyone that she was in charge of food, but more importantly, she had also created a massive wardrobe so that her person could dress in different ways when preparing different foods.
I have never been so proud!
Voldemort: Origins of the Heir
I'm not really someone who enjoys fan made films. [ #nohateplease ]
But I am a huge fan of Harry Potter. And this cinematic gem has been getting the hype all year. Naturally, I had to watch it.
The perfect twist to the story of Tom Riddle, Grisha McLaggin must track down the diary of her old school pal Tom, before it's too late. The acting was stellar, the special effects were actually better than either of the final HP movies and the character development was brilliant enough for Queen Rowling to approve.
A very special addition to anyones Harry Potter cannon collection.
My Plum Paper Planners
It shouldn't be much of a surprise to see a Plum product make my top 10 lists. Any top 10 lists, I guarantee Plum is probably on it!
I will be working on a post with much more detail regarding my 2019 planner system. While you wait, follow me on Instagram or join the Plum Paper Planner Buddies to stay up to date on all things Elley Plans
I did decide to go with a multi planner system this year, simply because I have decided it's time to put my money where my mouth is and make something of this little sit of mine. And plum is going to hep me do it!
The Sinner Television Series
The Handmaids Tale. American Horror Story. The Sinner
The top 3 television shows I have ever watched - period.
The Sinner is a new-to-me series. I can't quite recall where I stumbled on it, but once I had all the episodes downloaded (8 episodes; 2 seasons), winter break had begun and there was popcorn at the ready, I took a dive and was pulled right under.
Jessica Biel and Bill Pullman work so well together in Season 1 that I had trouble remembering this wasn't documentary footage. The boy in Season 2 deserves some kind of award for his brilliant portrayal of a killer kid who has no idea why he has done this.
From the heart stopping first episode to the tear-inducing season 2 finale, you will be on the edge of your seat through the entire show.
My JAKAGO Business Padfolio
If you've been hanging around my Insta, you've robably noticed a new "face" in the background. My JAKAGO Business Padfolio.
What I wanted was a place that I could slide my planner and some planning tools, store the many papers I am presented with each day, hold lists, receipts and other nonsense and be able to close nicely and be tossed in a bag.
Since I am such a sucker for everything having it's own place, I wanted something equally simple and complex when it came to storage areas.
My JAKAGO more than delivered!
Since getting my hands on this one, I have also purchased a palm print folio from Yoobi that acts in a similar manner, holding my business stuff instead of my daily comings and goings.
