In this post I am sharing our favorite family movies that I am sure you will want to add to your collection too! | movie night | family movies | kids movies | family night |

As a mom who rarely has time for herself, family movie night is one of the big things we all look forward to each week. On Friday's we grab the air popper, fill up tubs of buttery popcorn, sprawl ourselves all over the floor (which has been covered with pillows at this point) and press play on a new (sometimes) family movie.

Family movie night is a great way to be more involved with the kids. I value each and every Friday we have together. I try to rotate who chooses what, when but sometimes I end up making the executive decisions. Over the past few years, the below list of films have become; not only staples but, our favorite family movies for movie night.

Our Top 5 Favorite Family Movies

As with Mune, The Cat Returns is about helping each other and the personal rewards we obtain by doing so. After Haru saves a seeming stray cat from death, she is pulled into the undercover world of the Cat Kingdom and must marry the prince. Haru doesn't want to marry a prince cat and seeks help in the most unusual places, finally setting things right and proving that true love will out.

IMDB description:

A little girl lives in a very grown-up world with her mother, who tries to prepare her for it. Her neighbor, the Aviator, introduces the girl to an extraordinary world where anything is possible, the world of the Little Prince.

why we love it:

This re-imagining of the beloved children's tale is beautifully animated and told so realistically that you feel you can fully identify with each character. Full of life lessons for adults and children; The Little Prince teaches us about the values and benefits or love and friendship

IMDB description:

After helping a cat, a young girl finds herself involuntarily engaged to a cat prince in a magical world where her only hope of freedom lies with a dapper cat statuette come to life.

I admit I only half watched this movie at first by both my girls (ages 6 & 16) adored it from the start. Beautiful animation, this movie is about putting aside differences and stereotypes to embrace one another and help defeat darkness together.

IMDB description:

When an evil magma demon and his minions steals the sun of a magical world, the new guardians of both the sun and the moon must embark on a quest to retrieve it and save their world from disaster as the moon faces destruction as well.

IMDB description:

An animated anthology of five tales adapted from Edgar Allan Poe's stories.

why we love it:

EAP is easily one of the greatest american authors of all time. Undisputed. Yet, his work is do dark that it's nearly impossible to teach to kids under 16. Extraordinary tales allows children as young as 5 to reach into EAP's world without coming out scarred for life

Coraline is the first stop motion film that I had ever shown the kids. From the get go they loved the animation, story-telling and enjoyed cringing at the creep factor. Despite it's dark nature, Coraline delivers an amazing look at Neil Gaiman's original book and takes animation to a whole new level.

IMDB description:

When Coraline moves to an old house, she feels bored and neglected by her parents. She finds a hidden door with a bricked up passage. During the night, she crosses the passage and finds a parallel world where everybody has buttons instead of eyes, with caring parents and all her dreams coming true.

I'm self taught in all aspects of design, harking back to the bygone era of MySpace custom flash layouts. I have an eye for pattern and a love for color that makes me a perfect candidate for working as a web designer. Combining my love of design with coding and helping others and I am a natural teacher of all things blog related. My first ever blog was created on AOL Hometowns back n 2003 so I have had a lot of time and experience watching Blog Land grow and evolve and become a place of sharing stories, reviewing products and even making enough money to help support their families.
